Google Gemini has been launched, and has an AI Image Generator: Let’s review its features and future potential
The latest tech news recently announced Bard becoming Gemini. This allows users now to freely access the image generation capabilities of the tool, powered by its model named Gemini Ultra. This means the tech giant has fully entered the very competitive AI image generation scene alongside industry leaders Midjourney, OpenAI and Microsoft.

Competition is good for us, the users. So, let’s learn how we can use it, and see how good it is. After extensively testing Gemini’s image generation capabilities in the first week since its launch, here’s what you should know.
Free access is good
Gemini AI sets itself apart with free, unlimited accessibility at gemini.google.com. This stands in contrast to Midjourney’s subscription model AND its Discord application requirement, making Gemini a more accessible tool for casual users and persons curious about generating images with artificial intelligence. It’s similar to the current free access to Microsoft Copilot.
User-Friendly Interface
The AI tool provides a user-friendly chatbot interface for easy image generation. You can use it to chat, of course, but for our purposes here, just type an instruction starting with “Create an image of [your description]”. You can also be specific about what type of image you would like.
Let’s test it with the four following prompts:
Example: Create a photography of a cat with headphones, sitting in a cozy sofa.
Example: Create a photograph of a beautiful woman with a stylish red jacket, walking in the street, fashion style
Example: Create a photograph of 1970 Dodge Charger racing with flames in the road, dramatic style.
Example: Create an illustration of a grizzled knight holding a flaming sword in battle.
Verdict
Gemini images have good quality for daily uses, able to generate a free photorealistic image. When downloaded, the resolution of my images was 512x512 pixels. However, when asking for more high quality images with elaborated prompts including words like “Futuristic”, Gemini just can’t keep up with the big boys like Midjourney (The cover of the article, done easily with Midjourney, it’s something Gemini can’t even attempt). However, with the constant updates, and it being the visible focus of Google, this is a tool you should keep an eye on it to generate AI images.

Access Gemini Globally
Speaking of the latest updates, Gemini is now available in over 40 languages and more than 230 countries and territories, allowing users to enjoy enhanced understanding, reasoning, summarizing, and coding abilities, in addition to its image generation capability.
Invisible Watermark Technology with SynthID
A unique aspect of Gemini’s image capabilities is the incorporation of an invisible watermark using its SynthID system. This technology, commonly used to protect copyrights in traditional photographs, is a novel addition to an AI generated image, allowing for easy tracking and verification of the origin of the generated images.
Safety Measures and Ethical AI Practices
Prioritizing safety, Google Gemini AI demonstrates a more cautious approach compared to competitors like OpenAI’s DALL·E, Midjourney and Bing Chat. Gemini is known to refuse requests that might have even a slight potential for misuse, showcasing its commitment to ethical AI practices.
Gemini is an interesting new tool in the generative AI space, capable of delivering free images, while having a conversational AI for any doubts you may have. It shows potential for growth and refinement as it continues to evolve as it gets more user feedback, the tech gets better, and AI regulation gets more defined. You should take the time to search for it, write a prompt, and see what response you get.
