Midjourney has released an update.
Midjourney has just released its highly anticipated V6.1, bringing a slew of improvements and new features to improve your creative experience.
First, the basics: To use Midjourney v6.1 simply add –v 6.1 to the end of your prompt. This works on the web and the Discord versions and will change the model you are using. The most obvious changes are to skin and text rendering.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s new:
Key Enhancements in V6.1
1. More Coherent Images
The V6.1 model has significantly enhanced the coherence of images, ensuring that elements such as arms, legs, hands, bodies, plants, and animals are depicted more accurately and realistically.
2. Much Better Image Quality
Expect a substantial upgrade in image quality, with reduced pixel artifacts and enhanced textures. Whether you’re working with skin tones or creating 8-bit retro visuals, V6.1 offers superior detail and clarity.
3. Improved Small Image Features
Small image features, like eyes, small faces, and faraway hands, are now rendered with more precision, detail, and correctness, adding a new level of refinement to your creations.
4. New Upscalers
V6.1 introduces new upscalers that deliver much better image and texture quality, allowing you to produce high-resolution images with greater detail and sharpness.
5. Increased Speed
The new model is roughly 25% faster for standard image jobs, enabling quicker turnaround times for your projects.
6. Enhanced Text Accuracy
When using quotations in prompts to draw words, V6.1 provides improved text accuracy, making it easier to incorporate textual elements into your designs.
7. New Personalization Model
The updated personalization model offers improved nuance, surprise, and accuracy, allowing for more personalized and unique outputs.
Midjourney v6.1 has a new personalization model. This means you now have a new — p code for this version. Your old code also still works for v6.0. And no, you can’t blend them together, as each is for a specific version.
8. New — q 2 Mode
This mode takes 25% longer to render images but sometimes adds more texture at the cost of reduced image coherence, giving you more control over the final look of your creations.
Across the board, images should look “generally more beautiful,” with enhancements in overall visual appeal.
Important Notes
Inpainting/Outpainting: V6.1 currently does not include a new inpainting/outpainting model. For features like zoom, reframe, repaint, or vary region, it will fall back to the V6.0 model.
Switching Back to V6: If you prefer to use V6, you can easily switch back via the settings panel on the website or by typing
--v 6
after your job.
Looking Ahead: V6.2
Midjourney is already looking to the future with plans to release V6.2 in the next month or so. The focus will be on further improvements based on the data gathered from users working with V6.1.
V6.1 will soon be the default model for all users.
